The Give Up Realm

The Give Up Realm, a land where people fail and fall and accept that there is never anything better to stand up for, so they stay down. A land where our porcelain bodies are vulnerable to shaky grounds where one may fall and break off a piece of themselves. A land where people accept that they are breaking and decide to sweep the fallen pieces under the rug instead of picking them up. A land where giving up is easier than and more acceptable than trying against all odds to do better. The Give Up Realm is Us.

As human beings, we are easily broken. We should come into the world with a Fragile; handle with care sticker. Our fragile, insecure bodies are thrust into a world that makes no sense and expected to survive in this world that is damaged itself. We are porcelain dolls tiptoeing on the eggshells of our unhinged, cracked little planet. Most of the time we are expected to be whole and together, no one shares the truth, that their lives are in fact frangible and on the cusp of shattering. No one shares the truth that most people already have that splinter in their lives where one more crack could be enough to break you into pieces. This story however, is not about accepting in silence that we are all broken, but instead recognizing that while we all have our pieces of our soul exposed to the harsh realities of a sin filled world, hope is not yet lost, nor ever will be.

Our world, The Give Up Realm, would love to convince you that once a piece has fallen off you, there is no putting it back, that once you crack, you cannot be glued back together. This is one of the greatest lies this realm tries to impose on us. Where there is struggle, there is strength, and though we may be pushed and stomped on, and there are times we may falter and break off pieces of ourselves, there is hope for redemption. A Russian proverb states that “The same hammer that shatters the glass forges the steel” We must not be ashamed of the pieces that have shattered because they are still a part of your soul and they cannot be forgotten but used to strengthen yourself and encourage others to do the same. We must recognize our own failures but never sweep them behind you, we must pick up the broken pieces and start again stronger than you did before.

Starting again can be difficult; picking up the pieces of your soul is one thing, but making yourself whole again is a more difficult matter. As humans, we can try as we might to put ourselves back together again, and sometimes we can succeed, but not entirely. There will always be those scars when we try to do it ourselves. That however is not a bad thing. “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest of souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars” Kahlil Gibran Picking up the pieces is one thing, but there is something more if you want to make yourself entirely whole again. We are fragile beings who will falter and break and that cannot stop, no matter how many times you pick up the pieces. This is because “the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41 No matter how many times we may be able to pick up our own pieces, we will always be tempted to feed our flesh with the temptations of this world for the mere pleasure of a minute, hour, or day. Those times that we fail at resisting those temptations are what causes us to fall and shatter. “It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want” Mr. Spock We humans do not wish to fall and break, but it is because we falter from what is good and decide to give up afterwards and wonder why it happened.

We may be able to pick ourselves up, but to stay up we need something else, a special glue that will never fail and that is because we are more than just a body that needs repair. “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience” Pierre Tellhard Chardin. The pieces that break off expose our soul to the harsh realities of this give up realm, and we need something stronger to put us back together again in order to be complete. We need the creator of our souls to mend our spirits and make us fly again, never to give up the pieces that make us who we are. One might ask why the creator would put our souls in such a fragile shell, on a planet that only wishes to crush us, the answer is simple. “What is better, to be born good- or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?” -Unknown. In a world that constantly tries to belittle, discourage, and break you, it is not only understandable, but expected that we would break sometimes, however, as Vincent Van Gogh once said, “As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed” This is why we must not ever surrender to the whims of this Give Up Realm we live in. Though we may break, we can always pick up the pieces, and with help, we can become whole again.
